Noon O Kabab, the popular Persian/Iranian eat-in, take-out restaurant on Kedzie in Chicago, now has a Highwood outpost.
Sitting just north of where IL Hwy 22 (Prairie Avenue) dead ends east at Green Bay Road, the restaurant has just opened in a glassed-in, street level space of a new building with a courtyard ready for warm-weather seating.
Even though the dining room is light, bright and is partially rimmed with charming eastern-style architectural arches, the restaurant is casual. Entry is at the front take-out and ordering counter where there are large, colorful menus.
My friend and I took a menu to the dining room to drop our jackets at a table to choose lunch. We ordered our dishes and paid for them back at the counter.
We didn’t think we ordered much as she chose a lamb kabab and I opted for the lunch special of a skewer each of beef Koubideh (signature ground sirloin) and of Joujeh marinated chicken breast.
Imagine our surprise when we were each brought a huge round, platter filled with rice, a couple of roasted tomatoes, onion slices, pita bread and sauce plus the kababs. Mine also had a delicious falafel ball as good as what I have eaten in at a popular take-out spot in Jerusalem. Plus, I had wonderful hummus and whole grain rice. I really loved the falafel because it was lightly fried, so not dry.
Of course, we each took half of our dishes home.
I know I will return to try other menu items for dinner because my meat and chicken were delicious – flavorful and tender. and there are other dishes I want to try.
