I like what Chef Art Smith says on his Reunion website because it explains the name and the value he sees in this restaurant.
“Getting back to the table allows us to love and nurture each other and renew connections to our families—however they may be configured—in this diverse and ever-changing society. Such connections are crucial in a fast-paced world where we feel more disconnected every day. One of the best ways we know how to restore that daily balance is to sit down at our table.”
Known from TV appearances and culinary awards including from the James Beard Foundation, Chef Art is the executive chef and co-owner of six restaurants and two non-profits. However, what diners think of the food at Reunion which recently opened at Navy Pier, is up to them and their taste.
I ordered the Crispy Chicken Sliders which came over-cooked and had little meat or even taste except for the good honey that was on them. A friend ordered the crab cakes which were delicious and which I wish I had ordered. But Chef Art is known for his chicken, so I tried that.
Would I go back? Yes, because one meal or tasting should not define a restaurant and I want to try other dishes and I hope the outside seating is open then. Reunion took over the space where Bubba Gump sat at Navy Pier’s main entrance until 2020.
Reunion is at 700 E Grand Ave #131, Chicago, IL 60611 (312) 224-1415. For menu and more information visit www.reunionrestaurants.comReunion
