Our house has always been a receiving point for yummy holiday gifts from friends, relatives, clients and husband’s office. They have ranged from popcorn, candy and fruit, to coffee, teas and wine. They are all good but the holiday season has always meant an extra five pounds on the bathroom scale.
This year I’m going on the offensive with two counter measures: cold, sliced apple and Snack Bites.
Sliced apple
Even though the apple growing season is over in our northern states, the groceries still have several varieties. Take one you like from the gifted fruit basket or the grocery store, wipe with fruit or veggie wash and core it. You don’t have to peel the apple if you cut it into thin slices. Place the slices on a dish and cover with wax paper (or lightly drizzle with lemon juice to keep apple slices fresh).
When looking for a snack, snag a couple of slices from the fridge.
Lake Champlain Snack Bites
I found Lake Champlain Chocolates snack bites at the grocery store last year. They are thick circles about 1 3/8 in diameter and 1/4 inch of crispy quinoa and organic dark chocolate.
The store stopped carrying them when the weather made shipping some chocolates a problem. But the company has them on its website. Two of them at a total of 80 calories satisfy my craving, so I’m not going to the stash of goodies that ended up at our house. I prefer dark chocolate but the milk chocolate variety is also good. Find the assortment at Snack Bites.
