“Grilling for the Family” is a great book to refer to any time of year including Thanksgiving. But it is bound to show more smears on its pages now that summer is here and we’ve moved food prep outdoors.
The book is a must for anyone who wants to up the grilling skills and try different taste combinations. It also has tips for including family members in the process.
Published by Creative Homeowner for Char Grill, the book has burger recipes ranging from chicken and turkey based to beef burgers Cajun style or smashed with goat cheese.
Here area a couple of recipes from “Grilling for the Family.”
Beer Burgers Smashed with Fresh Goat Cheese
6 servings, prep is 15 minutes, grilling is 15 minutes
INGREDIENTS
1 ½ lb ground beef, 1 tsp salt, 2 Tbs minced onion
6 slices firm, chilled goat cheese slices
1/3 can beer, 3 Tbs steak sauce, 1/3 c ketchup, 1 Tbs prepared mustard, 1 Tbs sugar
5 hamburger buns
INSTRUCTIONS
Combine fist three ingredients and shape meat into half patties
Place slice of goat cheese on one half and put other half patty on top
Combine next five ingredients and heat in saucepan until mixture thickens and keep warm.
Preheat grill to high then place patties in an oiled grill basket
Grill 4 to 6 minutes on each side
Toast hamburger bunds on edge of gril for about 2 minutes. l, can turn onece.
Place patties in buns and top with warm sauce before serving.
All-American Turkey Burgers
4 servings, Prep 10 min, Grill 10-15 min
INGREDIENTS
1 lb. ground turkey, ½ c chopped onion, 1 minced garlic clove, ¼ c ketchup, 1/3 tsp pepper
4 kaiser rolls, sliced
4 lettuce leaves, 4 slices red ripe tomatoes, 4 thins slices onion
INSTRUCTIONS
Preheat grill
Combine turkey, onion, garlic ketchup and pepper in medium bowl
Divide mixture into 4 burgers about 3 inches diameter
Grill 5-6 min per side until food thermometer registers 165 degrees F and turkey should no longer be pink in the center
Place on bun and top with tomato, lettuce and onion
