The culinary world’s annual prestigious James Beard Awards for top chefs and related culinary achievements takes place in Chicago June 8 through June 10, 2024. Primarily presented by Capital One and the James Beard Foundation, there are associated events hosted by past Award and nominated recipients.
A statement from the James Beard Foundation explains this yearly event as “The mission of the James Beard Awards is to recognize exceptional talent and achievement in the culinary arts, hospitality, media, and broader food system, as well as a demonstrated commitment to racial and gender equity, community, sustainability, and a culture where all can thrive.”
First, some of the events leading up to the Awards ceremony:
A Kickoff Party at Baobing is June 8th from 1 to 3 pm at Baobing at Duck Duck Goat, 857 W Fulton Market where Chef Stephanie Izard will have cocktails and ice cream sundaes at her Taiwanese styled Baobing walk-up window next to Duck Duck Goat,
Also, the James Beard Foundation will host a panel discussion called “Under the Influence: How Dining Trends are Shaping Drink Choices,” on June 8th from 2 to 3:30 pm. at Biân, 600 W Chicago Ave Suite 001. where food industry leaders will discuss how dining trends, menu creation, and consumption shape consumerism.
Plus, a “Fireside Chat with Diana Wu, Executive Director of Oakland Bloom, and Chef Melissa Tung, Justice for Migrant Women’s Special Culinary Advisor” discuss Caring for Communities and the Role of the Restaurant Industry, June 8th from 2 to 3 pm at Kendall College (in National Louis University), 18 S Michigan Ave.,

What to expect: Black-tie dress and red carpet arrival outside and inside the Lyric broadcasted livestream featuring the presenters and winners. (Tune in beginning at 5:30 p.m.)
